Love Yourself: Be your own Valentine
"It is a shame for a woman to grow old without ever seeing the strength and beauty of which her body is capable." -Socrates.
This Valentine’s Day, be your own best Valentine by treating yourself to some Lehigh Valley wellness and feel-good experiences. Pattie Bostick (thanks for that quote), Jennifer Anllo, and Linda Warren are all Lehigh Valley gals, business owners, and true inspirations in the way of health, fitness, and beauty. If you seek a healthy treat or a change, read on.
“It’s hard to look in the mirror and appreciate what you see. By eating well and exercising, women can gain a great deal of self-esteem. This empowerment helps us to live better lives, not just for ourselves but those we love as well.”
That’s Pattie Bostick’s (Bostick Dance and Wellness Center) philosophy and it shows in everything she does. Pattie’s led barre classes since way before they were a trend, and she teaches Tabata classes as well. Her studio is her own and the atmosphere there makes for a total comfort zone. Her exuberance will ignite your drive to finish what you started. And her workouts are killer! You know the workout works when you’re nearly dying but your instructor is gleefully breezing through it all. She’s a master! Aside from teaching adult fitness classes, she (following in the legacy of her mother’s (Miss Pat) footsteps) teaches children and young adult dance classes all week, so it’s no wonder she has so much pep in her step! Another favorite quote Pattie shared with me:
Any one of your friends will go out to eat with you. A real friend will motivate and encourage you to workout.
While I’m still the friend who leans toward eating together, I know I can change with the help of someone like Pattie. When I had the opportunity to take her classes in the past, they were indeed the most challenging I’ve ever experienced. I’m not a gym person, so I especially appreciated the dance studio classroom (I pretended I was in Fame) as well as the truly inexpensive cost of the class. Check out her classes. You’ll be so glad you did. Pattie’s fitness classes include: Barre Above: Wednesday’s at 6:30PM and Saturday’s at 8:15AM and Tabata Bootcamp: Monday’s & Thursday’s at 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. “Treat your skin like silk and it will look like silk.”
That’s Jennifer Anllo’s philosophy of skincare. She must have a very similar philosophy about how she treats her clients, because you will always leave her place of business (Anllo Aesthetics) feeling better about yourself. Providing services like skin care consultation, tri-level peels, micro-needling, makeup services, and more, Anllo Aesthetics offers a serene and joyful experience rooted in Jennifer’s bubbling and fun personality. Jennifer truly believes that being too rough and doing too much tears down the collagen and ages the skin. She and her staff educate clients about their skin without pushing beauty treatments or products they don’t need. The welcoming staff feels instantly like home and I promise you will always leave with a little lift in your spirit and an extra glow on your cheeks. And your skin with thank you! This Valentine’s month, treat yourself to a medical facial that gives you the “Anllo glow”, leaving you with baby soft skin. Or drop in and get a little lip pop of Botox or filler to make those lips even more kissable. On top of the array of fabulous services, Jennifer’s also added a lovely boutique of jewelry, accessories, clothing, and skincare products in her office. Perfectly unique gifts for any occasion! “I allowed life to happen to me. For many years I was not an "inspiration" to anyone- including myself.”
Those are Linda Warren’s profound words about her life, before she became a Beachbody coach. Juggling kids and career, making poor food choices on the fly, and not paying attention to her own health, she eventually landed in the hospital with some very serious issues: “I was hospitalized with strep throat related complications of congestive heart failure and kidney failure, during which time there were a few very real "mortal" moments. I had ventricular enlargement, decreased cardiac function. I was scared. I had a choice - continue with my pre-crisis lifestyle or make changes and pray for healing.”
Linda chose change.
“By using meal plans designed by nutritionists, designed at-home- fitness programs, and online support groups, I changed my health - and began to change my life. The ventricular enlargement returned to normal size, my cardiac function improved, I lost 30 pounds of weight, became physically stronger than I had ever been - and along the way found an undiscovered passion for helping and encouraging others. I am still a busy working mom and general dentist - but I am also a Beachbody coach.”
Now, Linda connects people with practical and personalized nutrition and flexible fitness programs that they do in their homes when their schedules permit. She supports her clients in and outside of online private groups allowing her to help anyone, anywhere. You can connect with Linda: https://mysite.coach.teambeachbody.com?coachId=919179?locale=en_US.
She regularly posts workouts that make me out of breath just watching them as well as meal prep ideas and recipes that are sure to inspire you on her Facebook page. Check it out: https://m.facebook.com/LindaWarrenFitness
All three of these women are tough cookies who are so strong (because they each practice fitness on a regular basis) they could flip me in one move and if you’ve read my blog post on binge eating, (https://www.studiogallentown.com/blog/jaws-a-treadmill) then you know what a feat that would be. You might be thinking I’m some kind of hypocrite to write about fitness and nutrition, celebrating three women whose health regimens are so much more than skin deep, whose life choices make them glow from the inside out, when I do not follow such regimens. Yet. But, I rave about them and look up to them in hopes that I will someday get back on track and get active and stop stashing slabs of chocolate cake with peanut butter icing in my cabinet. Their work inspires me to change and grow into being my best and healthiest self. And this work in progress is about to work on just that. Well, right after Valentine’s Day.
I hope this post inspires you and that you get lots of chocolate. It’s good for you. Antioxidants and all that.
